One person killed in traffic crash on Quito’s Shyris Avenue

A person died in a traffic crash at the intersection of Los Shyris and Naciones Unidas avenues in northern Quito, forcing authorities to restrict traffic at one of the area’s busiest junctions.

The crash occurred in the El Batán neighborhood. Officials closed the right and central lanes of Los Shyris Avenue in the north-to-south direction after the victim was left on the roadway. The closure kept regular traffic away from the area while authorities carried out the necessary procedures.

Authorities confirmed the fatality in a preliminary assessment and kept the section between the two avenues cordoned off as legal and technical work continued. The incident caused congestion and required drivers to take diversions around the affected area.

Operational reports urged motorists approaching the scene to slow down. Officials said the measure would help prevent further problems and allow emergency and other response work to continue safely.
