One phone setting can remove many ads, here's how to activate it

A straightforward adjustment within Android's settings can dramatically decrease the number of advertisements users encounter on their devices, eliminating the need for additional software or system modifications. This feature, available on most newer Android versions starting from Android 9, involves altering the Private DNS setting.

To implement this, users need to navigate to their phone's settings, locate the "Private DNS" option, and enter "dns.adguard.com" as the server address. Once saved, this setting blocks a significant portion of ads by preventing the device from connecting to servers that deliver advertisements. This can lead to fewer pop-ups, video ads, and other interruptions within apps and games.

The impact is particularly noticeable in free applications and games where ads frequently interrupt user experience. However, this DNS filtering method is not foolproof. Advertisements deeply integrated into streaming services or delivered through specific mechanisms may still appear. Furthermore, enabling Private DNS could affect certain app functionalities, such as games offering rewards for watching ads, which might no longer load.
