One Week After Disappearance, Lizeth Bunshi Search Expands to Guayllabamba

A week has passed since Lizeth Esthela Bunshi Muñoz, a 28-year-old stylist, disappeared, and the search for her continues without results. This Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Quito Fire Department expanded its operation to the Guayllabamba sector. The Prosecutor's Office maintains an open investigation to clarify what happened to the young woman, whose trail was lost on the night of July 19 in the Machángara River area.

Coordinated operations involving authorities are underway, with search efforts progressing in difficult-to-access areas. Captain Freddy Oña of the Quito Fire Department explained that the river's dynamics require inspecting new points as conditions change. The search is currently authorized until Tuesday.

The Prosecutor's Office is investigating a case of involuntary disappearance. Cristian Gonzalo V. L., the last person seen with Lizeth, remains in preventive detention for 90 days. The investigation relies on security camera footage, testimonies, and other evidence gathered by authorities. Reconstructions of Lizeth's final hours have helped establish her movements before she vanished, guiding the ongoing search operations.
