Only moderately warm: A changeable, cooler week ahead

Sunshine and rain will alternate across Germany in the coming week, while temperatures fall from summerlike levels to around 20 degrees or slightly above.

On Monday, short showers will affect parts of the south and central Germany. The southern Black Forest and the Alpine foothills could also see isolated strong thunderstorms. Temperatures will reach 20 to 26 degrees in the north and 25 to 33 degrees elsewhere, with the highest readings along the Upper Rhine.

Tuesday will bring widespread cloud. Rain is expected from the northwest into central Germany, with highs of 19 to 24 degrees. The southeast will initially remain dry, sunny and warmer, reaching 25 to 29 degrees, before showers and thunderstorms arrive in the evening. Storm-force gusts and hail may accompany them.

Rain will continue in the southeast on Wednesday and could persist for longer near the Alps. Showers are also expected near the coast, with brief thunderstorms and squally winds possible on the North Sea. Elsewhere, showers should be infrequent, but temperatures will fall to 17 to 21 degrees.

Thursday will remain mostly dry under changeable cloud, apart from showers along the coasts. Temperatures will reach about 17 degrees in the south and on the North Sea, and 18 to 22 degrees in other areas. Friday is expected to bring more clouds, showers and rain, while the east may stay dry for longer. Highs will range from only 16 to 20 degrees.
