OnlyFans creator sentenced to four years for client's death during fetish session

Michaela Rylaarsdam, a content creator known for her work on the platform OnlyFans, has received a four-year prison sentence in San Diego County, California. The conviction stems from the death of her client, Michael Dale, during a fetish encounter in Escondido in 2023.

The case concluded with Rylaarsdam entering a guilty plea to involuntary manslaughter. This legal classification is applied in California when an unlawful death results from a deliberate act, but the action lacks the specific intent to kill or a conscious disregard for human life. Local media, including The San Diego Union-Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, reported on the proceedings.

According to reports, Dale had transferred over $11,000 to Rylaarsdam in the weeks leading up to the incident to finance communications and arrange private meetings. During the session, Rylaarsdam began filming bondage scenes for her online profile. Prosecutors stated that Dale had a plastic bag over his head, secured with tape and wrapped in multiple layers of clear film, for at least eight minutes.

When Dale lost consciousness and showed signs of asphyxiation, Rylaarsdam stopped filming, called emergency services, and initiated CPR. Paramedics arriving at the scene found Dale with his arms immobilized and bound, wearing black boots. The judicial process took nearly two years, with Rylaarsdam initially facing a murder charge. However, the judge dismissed the murder charge, citing that the evidence did not demonstrate a clear intent to end the victim's life, distinguishing consensual fetish practices from malicious intent.
