Ontario Woman Discovers $16 Million Lottery Win on Her Birthday

A woman from Cavan, Ontario, received the ultimate birthday surprise after discovering she had won a $16 million Lotto 6/49 prize. Darlene M., a 63-year-old retiree, claimed the winning ticket from the Gold Ball draw held on May 30.

She checked her ticket using the OLG app on her birthday and was initially in disbelief. "I had to make sure what I was seeing was real. I was shocked," she told the OLG. She immediately shared the news with her sister and later with the rest of her family, who were also stunned.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Giant Tiger store in Peterborough, a city located about 25 kilometers northeast of Cavan. The OLG had reported the sale of the winning ticket in Peterborough the day after the draw.

Darlene plans to use her substantial winnings to cover some bills, purchase a new truck, and assist her children in buying their own homes. Additionally, she intends to support animal welfare initiatives that are important to her.
