Ooni donates ₦100m, Hilux to support Igboho’s security outfit

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has made a significant contribution to community security by donating ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network. This initiative is led by Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba Nation agitator.

The donation was announced following a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of his security outfit to the Ooni's Palace in Ile-Ife. The palace statement highlighted the Ooni's role as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide. The Iru Ekun Security Network is described as a community-based security initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of the Yoruba people.

In his commendation, the Ooni praised Igboho's dedication to strengthening community security, emphasizing that protecting the people is a shared responsibility that transcends political and ideological divides. He stated that any initiative genuinely designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support. The monarch also called upon traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, professionals, and other Yoruba stakeholders to rally behind the Iru Ekun Security Network, stressing the importance of unity for the peace and progress of Yorubaland.

Sunday Igboho expressed his gratitude to the Ooni, referring to him as "the father of all Yoruba people worldwide" and "God's gift to our race." He highlighted the Ooni's humility and kindness as distinguishing qualities among traditional rulers. Igboho explained that the visit was also intended to brief the monarch on the network's activities and seek his continued guidance and support. Plans are reportedly underway to organize a security summit involving traditional leaders.
