Oostende Koerse is set to revive the prestigious Champagneprijs, bringing back a beloved tradition after a 30-year hiatus. The event, scheduled for Monday evening, will see the winners of both the trot and gallop races awarded their weight in champagne.

Verbeeck, who has won the Champagneprijs multiple times, last secured victory 36 years ago. His participation marks a notable return, with organizers expressing excitement about his presence.

The Champagneprijs was a highlight of Oostende Koerse until it was removed from the program after the venue reopened in 2012 following renovations. The idea behind the prize, originating decades ago, was to combine the allure of champagne with the excitement of racing, creating a sense of "grandeur" for Oostende and attracting top jockeys. The return of the prize aims to add a festive conclusion to the season and draw prominent riders to the event.
