Organisers reject Ochonogor’s entry for 2026 Commonwealth Games

National champion Prestina Ochonogor will not compete in the women's long jump at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Organizers rejected Nigeria's request to include her in the event, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

Nigeria had hoped to enter both Ochonogor and Ruth Usoro after experienced jumper Ese Brume withdrew. However, the Games' Technical Delegate, Chris Cohen, stated in a letter to Team Nigeria that Ochonogor could not be added to the final entry list. She was not part of the country's original submission for the event.

Nigeria has already made a late athlete replacement for this event (BRUME replaced by USORO). Countries are not allowed to add more athletes to events, as only one athlete was entered originally and therefore only one athlete is allowed to compete in this event.

Ochonogor earned her national selection by winning the women's long jump at the National Athletics Trials in June. Her winning leap of 6.57m at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Yaba, Lagos, secured her spot. Despite this performance, she will now miss the Commonwealth Games due to the strict entry regulations.
