Organized crime group operated at Prague municipal authority, police say

An organized crime group allegedly operated within Prague's municipal authority, leading to charges against six individuals and two companies. Czech police announced the charges following a raid, with accusations including money laundering, abuse of official authority, and corruption.

According to the Municipal Public Prosecutor's Office in Prague, criminal proceedings were initiated against six people and two legal entities. Among the accused are two municipal officials. One of the individuals identified by Novinky.cz is Aleš Krejča, director of the department for land communications and railways, who was detained during the operation. Two suspects face charges related to participation in an organized criminal group, abuse of official authority, accepting bribes, and unauthorized business operations and money laundering.

Two other individuals and one legal entity are accused of assisting the officials in these crimes. The remaining accused are charged with complicity in money laundering. The investigation targets activities that allegedly fulfill the elements of multiple criminal offenses.

Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda reacted to the police operation on social media, noting that the involved department falls under the Pirate Party's purview. He requested a clear and transparent explanation from the party. However, the Pirates stated that the department is not under any politician's direct responsibility, as it falls under state administration powers. They asserted that politicians assigning tasks to these officials would constitute a legal violation.
