Oscar Magnusson Pours From the Heart

Oscar Magnusson, at 45, finds himself in a role many might consider a significant leap: fronting Sven-Ingvars, the band his late father, Sven-Erik Magnusson, led for decades. The band is celebrating its 70th anniversary, a milestone that carries a unique weight for Oscar.

For the first time I played with the band, I was probably five. You know when you pop your finger against your cheek, I did that on some song.

Reflecting on his journey, Magnusson notes that his life has, in a way, prepared him for this moment. He recalls his first performance with the band at age five, a playful experience that foreshadowed his future. Despite the shadow of his father's legacy, Oscar emphasizes his desire to forge his own path, likening their shared profession to 'pouring from the heart', an act that cannot be faked.

We share the same profession, one where you pour from the heart – and you can't do it pretending.

His childhood summers were marked by music and the natural world, including thrilling, albeit dangerous, memories of water skiing and balancing on logs on the Klarälven river. Today, his anchor is in Borgvik, a place he and his family have put down roots. His days are a blend of activity, from playing football with his sons to boating with his wife, driven by a restless energy that keeps him engaged.

My God, that was life-threatening! I don't understand how we could do that now when I think about it, but it was another time.

Magnusson also owns Sliperiet, an art gallery he has managed for 17 years. This summer, Sven-Ingvars is set to play 70 shows, a tribute to their anniversary. He describes the celebration as 'quiet,' a mutual understanding within the band to focus on the music and connect with the audience. The tour began in the same region where Sven-Ingvars originated, a poignant location that also hosted Sven-Erik's final performance.
