Oscar Zia and Björn Kjellman to Host Melodifestivalen 2027

Swedish entertainers Oscar Zia and Björn Kjellman are set to host the upcoming Melodifestivalen 2027, the national selection show for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Oscar Zia is no stranger to the Melodifestivalen stage, having previously hosted the show in 2021 and 2022. He also has a history as a competitor, achieving second place in the 2016 final with his song "Human." Zia expressed his enthusiasm for returning, stating, "It feels wonderful to be back! I love Mello and it feels fun and safe to have Björn by my side."

Actor Björn Kjellman, a self-proclaimed "schlager nerd," also brings a wealth of experience related to the competition. He competed in Melodifestivalen in 2006 with the ballad "Älskar du livet," reaching ninth place in the final. Kjellman also served for many years as a commentator and expert for Sveriges Radio's broadcasts of the Eurovision Song Contest. His involvement with public service radio ended when he began appearing in commercials for Ica-Stig in 2021, a role he recently left.

Kjellman shared his excitement about the hosting opportunity, noting, "If one has spent so unnaturally much time on Melodifestivalen and Eurovision as I have, in the nerdiest of nerdy ways, then this is obviously the most fun assignment one can get."

Planning for Melodifestivalen 2027 is well underway. Swedish public broadcaster SVT is currently accepting song submissions from the public, with songwriters needing to submit their entries by September 11. A selection jury will then choose the 30 competing songs.

Project manager Anders Wistbacka described Zia and Kjellman as "the ultimate guides" for the competition, praising their multifaceted entertainment talents and their personal success within Melodifestivalen. The cities that will host the various shows are expected to be announced at a later date. The competition is scheduled to begin on Saturday, February 6, 2027.
