Osh region registers over 1,200 hepatitis B and C cases

Osh and Osh region have registered 1,204 individuals with viral hepatitis B and C, according to data from the Osh Regional Center for the Control of Blood-Borne Infections, Viral Hepatitis, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus. In the first half of 2026, 785 people were diagnosed with hepatitis B, with 609 residing in the wider Osh region and 176 in Osh city. Additionally, 419 people were registered with hepatitis C, comprising 317 from the Osh region and 102 from Osh city.

The center highlighted a concerning trend: many hepatitis cases in Kyrgyzstan are identified at advanced stages. Official figures indicate that approximately 94 percent of registered cases are chronic or have developed complications, including liver cirrhosis and cancer. This underscores the critical need for early detection and intervention.

Medical professionals are reminding residents of the importance of regular health screenings and vaccination against hepatitis B. These measures are crucial for reducing the risk of severe health consequences associated with the disease.
