Osijek legend Mile Škorić announces retirement, leaving a deep mark

Mile Škorić, a stalwart defender and former Croatian international, has officially retired from professional football at the age of 35. The decision comes after a prolonged battle with injuries that have sidelined him in recent months, bringing a close to a distinguished career that spanned over a decade.

Škorić announced his retirement on social media, marking the end of a chapter that saw him become one of the most recognizable figures in recent Osijek football history. He made an impressive 334 appearances for NK Osijek, leaving an indelible mark on the club. The Croatian Football Federation also paid tribute to Škorić on social media, acknowledging his contributions.

During his international career, Škorić earned seven caps for the Croatian national team. A standout performance was his role in the 2020 match against Portugal, where, alongside Dejan Lovren, he effectively neutralized Cristiano Ronaldo, despite Croatia's 3-2 loss. This defensive display was considered one of his best in a national team jersey.

Beyond his deep connection with Osijek, Škorić also achieved significant success with HNK Rijeka. He was part of the team that secured the Croatian league championship and the Croatian Cup in the same season, completing a historic domestic double. Škorić retires as a celebrated player, recognized for his national team aspirations and trophy-laden career on the Croatian football scene.
