Osun 2026: APC and PDP Challenge Governor Adeleke’s Election Victory at Tribunal

The legal battle over Osun’s governorship election has begun after both the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party took their challenges to the election tribunal. Their petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osogbo, formally bringing the dispute before the court.

The move followed conflicting reports about the 21-day deadline for challenging the result. A report by The PUNCH said no petition had been filed before the window closed on Saturday, quoting an unnamed APC legal team member who said the party had grounds to challenge the election but chose not to do so “in the interest of peace.” The latest filings show that both parties ultimately approached the tribunal.

The APC petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. It names Adeleke, Accord and the Independent National Electoral Commission as respondents. The PDP petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and Accord.

INEC declared Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, defeating Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815. The report did not provide the specific grounds of either challenge. The tribunal is expected to move next to serving the petitions on the respondents and conducting pre-hearing proceedings, while the opposition parties seek to overturn the result.
