Osun APC candidate backs state police, promises adherence to framework

Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, has expressed support for the proposed establishment of state police. He described it as a welcome policy but stressed the importance of implementing it in line with due process and existing regulations.

Speaking at a town hall meeting for candidates organized by Arise TV, Oyebamiji stated that his administration would abide by whatever framework is eventually established for state policing. "Our government, our party, it is a party of people that knows what they are doing by antecedent," he added, emphasizing his party's commitment to following established procedures.

Well, state police, I think, is a good policy. It is a welcome policy, but one thing that is important is that there is a process, and that if that process is followed, in governance, it is always about the institution. It is about process, it is about rules, it is about regulations.

Oyebamiji linked his stance to the performance of the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu, noting that Nigeria has been rated as a "4-star country" due to the current administration's policies. He affirmed that his party and government would support the state police policy as long as its implementation followed the established process, promising to implement and interpret whatever is in the official manual.
