Osun APC demands arrest over DG’s nephew killing, parties trade accusations

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the immediate arrest of individuals responsible for the killing of Oladele Ayegbo, the nephew of the party's governorship campaign council Director-General, Oluwole Oke. The party's media head, Remi Omowaiye, stated that approximately 40 APC members have been victims of extrajudicial killings in the state in recent weeks.

Omowaiye detailed several recent killings involving APC members, including an incident where suspected Accord Party members allegedly attacked APC members in Alarere village. He reported that Ayegbo Oladale and Taiwo Oluwadele were shot near Oluwole Oke's family compound in Esa-Oke, resulting in Ayegbo's death and Taiwo's critical condition. He also mentioned attacks on associates of Honourable Sanya Omirin and other APC members in Atakumasa East.

Yesterday, (Wednesday) the nephew of the Director-General of our campaign council, Honourable Oluwole Oke, Ayegbo Oladale and Taiwo Oluwadele were shot around Honourable Oluwole Oke’s family compound in Esa-Oke. Unfortunately, we lost Ayegbo Oluwadele while Taiwo is still in a very critical condition.

The APC accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of playing the victim's card and warned that he could not escape justice or divine wrath for the alleged killings of their members. The party cited another incident in Ilesha where five people were shot during preparations for a rally, with four fatalities, allegedly by a prisoner released by the government.

Responding to the allegations, Osun Accord Party spokesperson Oladele Bamiji dismissed the claims, urging the APC to investigate within its own ranks. Bamiji asserted that the Accord Party conducts its campaigns peacefully and denied any involvement in the killings. He suggested that the APC should look for perpetrators within its fold, especially after a recent APC chieftain allegedly declared war on Accord Party members.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement, condemned the killing in Esa-Oke and the associated property destruction, offering condolences to the bereaved. The governor's office has not yet provided further details on the investigation into the incidents.
