Osun election: Davido urges peace, appeals to 'our daddy from Imo State'

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has called for peace and a rejection of violence in Nigeria's Osun State ahead of the governorship election. Speaking as the head of the youth campaign mobilization team for his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, the singer urged residents to exercise their civic rights without fear.

I speak to you today not just as Davido, but as one of your own, as a voice for our people.

Davido described his uncle as one of the state's best governors and expressed confidence in a third victory for their party. He acknowledged the election's tension but stressed that violence has no place in the democratic process. "We've won it twice before, and we're going to win it again for the third time, by the grace of God," he stated.

I understand the tension and emotions surrounding this election, but I urge everyone to remain calm. Very important. We’ve been calm for how long? Don’t forget we’ve won this thing twice before.

The musician also directed a plea to an unnamed politician from Imo State, whom he referred to as "our daddy from Imo State." Davido appealed for non-interference in Osun's electoral process, citing rumors of attempts to use the state as a political battleground. He highlighted his personal connection to Imo State through his wife, Chioma, making his appeal for peace more sincere.

"Please, let Osun remain peaceful," Davido urged, requesting that the politician use their influence to promote a free and fair election. He also called on politicians from other parties to respect the democratic process.
