Osun Governor Seeks Reconciliation with Opposition Leaders

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has initiated a peace and reconciliation drive, reaching out to former governors and opposition leaders in the state. This effort aims to unite political factions following the recent governorship election.

We are celebrating the 35th anniversary of the creation of our dear state. So, it is customary that I felicitate with leaders from various groups. I commended them for their contributions to state development.

Governor Adeleke spoke with prominent figures including former governors Chief Bisi Akande, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and Rauf Aregbesola. He also contacted the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. The outreach occurred during the 35th anniversary of Osun State's creation.

Then, my central message is to preach and act for peace and reconciliation. I repeated my earlier statement that there is no victor, no vanquished. Election has come and gone and it is time for us to return to governance and healing of electoral wounds.

During his calls, Adeleke commended the leaders for their contributions to the state's development. His central message focused on preaching and acting for peace and reconciliation, stating, "There is no victor, no vanquished." He emphasized the need to return to governance and heal electoral wounds.

That is my preoccupation as reflected in my state address and that is my appeal to my predecessors and even my fellow contestants in the last guber election. We must unite our people and prepare an enabling environment for them to enjoy the dividends of democracy and continuous delivery of good governance.

Adeleke highlighted that his actions align with President Bola Tinubu's appeal for peacebuilding and state reconciliation. He expressed his commitment to sustaining development through this peace drive, calling it a sacred task. The governor also noted the establishment of the Osun State Election Violence Relief Committee, chaired by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, to address cases of election-related violence.
