Osun governor unveils committee for election violence victims, invites petitions

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has launched a Committee on Election Violence Victims, tasked with verifying claims from individuals affected by election-related violence. This committee will also manage the distribution of a N500 million relief endowment fund established by the State Government.

The committee, chaired by the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, includes representatives from civil society, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and various government ministries. Its mandate includes receiving and verifying petitions, determining claimant eligibility, and recommending relief for genuine victims according to state-approved guidelines.

This initiative highlights Governor Adeleke's dedication to supporting citizens who have endured losses, injuries, or displacement due to election violence. The government has urged all affected individuals with legitimate claims to cooperate with the committee by providing accurate information and necessary evidence for the verification process.

The N500 million relief fund is expected to be administered transparently and fairly, ensuring that benefits reach only those victims who have been verified. The committee's work is crucial for addressing the aftermath of election-related violence and providing tangible support to those impacted.
