Osun Poll: Adeleke’s re-election a testament to people’s power - Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesperson and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election, hailing the outcome as a triumph for the state's populace. Okonkwo stated that Adeleke's victory demonstrates "the power of the people will always be greater than the people in power."

Congratulations to HE Gov Ademola Adeleke on his victory as the re-elected governor of Osun State. This is a testimony that the power of the people will always be greater than the people in power. The victory is a victory for Osun people.

However, Okonkwo cautioned opposition parties against complacency ahead of the 2027 general elections. He described Adeleke's win as a "wake-up call" for opposition politicians, suggesting it should prompt them to prepare for a "fierce electoral contest."

Okonkwo recalled the 2022 Osun governorship election, which brought Adeleke to power, and contrasted its conduct with the 2023 general election. He alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) organized a good gubernatorial election in Osun in 2022 but "bungled the general election in 2023 with a technical glitch."

Whenever the opposition wins Osun State, it triggers a panic mode in APC and makes them prepare to win the general elections by all means.

The former presidential campaign spokesman urged opposition parties not to assume that the Osun election outcome guarantees future polls will be conducted to their satisfaction. He warned that "the victory of the opposition in Osun is applaudable but it should ring an alarm bell in the ears of all opposition parties and opposition leaders to prepare against the fierce electoral battle in 2027."

Furthermore, Okonkwo alleged that President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress would "certainly attempt to grab the presidential election, snatch it, and run away with it" in 2027. He advised Nigerians to hold INEC and security agencies accountable in the lead-up to the next general elections.
