#OsunDecides2026: Jubilation in Adeleke’s hometown as governor secures re-election

The hometown of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke erupted in jubilation on Sunday following his re-election, with residents praising the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a credible and peaceful governorship election. Celebrations filled the streets of Ede North and Ede South local government areas as citizens expressed their happiness over the outcome.

We civil servants are happy because what the governor did for us cannot be overemphasised.

While acknowledging some instances of political violence, the general sentiment among residents interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was that the electoral process was orderly and transparent. The declaration of Governor Adeleke, who hails from Ede, as the winner after a closely contested election against 14 other candidates, including his main challenger Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), sparked widespread dancing and singing.

The victory recorded by the governor was a result of his administration’s commitment to excellence. Mr Babatunde said the developmental projects recorded in the state was overwhelming and such victory was premises on what the ordinary masses have seen and heard.

Residents used the moment to also voice their expectations for the governor's second term. They urged INEC to learn from any shortcomings during the governorship election to ensure a smoother presidential poll. Furthermore, citizens like civil servant Toyin Odewusi and business owner Thomas Babatunde emphasized the importance of Adeleke fulfilling his campaign promises, citing his administration's developmental projects as a strong basis for his re-election. They also encouraged supporters of opposition parties to support the governor's work for the state's progress.

The presence of security personnel at the polling units also contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.
