OsunDecides2026: NSCDC warns against disruption of election

Nigeria's Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the governorship election in Osun State, vowing decisive action against perpetrators. The Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Audi, emphasized during a visit to Osun State that "We will decisively deal with anyone who attempts to disrupt the electoral process." This warning comes as security agencies heighten preparations for the poll, amidst concerns over pre-election violence, including killings and clashes reported during the campaign period. The NSCDC will focus on protecting critical national assets and electoral infrastructure, such as facilities and materials belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State met with Commandant-General Audi, commending the corps' commitment and urging the deployment of sufficient personnel to prevent violence and safeguard voters. The governor expressed concern over security threats allegedly aimed at intimidating voters and called for the arrest of those planning disruptions. The NSCDC chief also met with the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, assuring her of the corps' operational support during the election and reiterating that "anyone who attempts to vandalise assets or interfere with the election will be seriously dealt with."
