Our actress recalled a great international success: '180 million people watched me'

Croatian actress Sanja Vejnović recently shared a nostalgic anecdote on social media about her significant international role in the 1984 Turkish television drama "Alis ile Zeynep." Filmed for the Turkish national broadcaster TRT, the series depicted a tragic love story set in the 19th century. Vejnović starred alongside renowned Turkish actor and singer Ahmet Özhan, with a cast that also included prominent Turkish actors and Croatian actresses Milena Dravić and Špela Rozin.

Vejnović revealed that she had not seen the series in its entirety, only catching snippets sent by viewers. She learned of its immense popularity, with an estimated 180 million viewers, through director Yücel Çakmaklı, with whom she had previously worked on another Turkish drama. She recalled seeing clips from Turkish newspapers and covers that highlighted the show's success.

In more recent work, Vejnović has been recognized for her role as Mirjana Vukas in the RTL series "Divlje pčele." She plays an elegant, cold, and manipulative mother-in-law, a type of character she finds particularly challenging and fun to portray. Vejnović noted that playing villains is enjoyable because it's accepted that the audience won't like them, and strong audience reactions indicate a successful performance. She also commented on the evolving portrayal of female characters in media, observing a shift from supporting roles to leading narratives.
