Oussama Diab’s ‘Reimagined’ at Artbooth Gallery interprets legacy of masterpieces

Artbooth Gallery in Abu Dhabi is showcasing 'Reimagined,' a solo exhibition by Palestinian-Syrian-Dutch artist Oussama Diab, running from September 17 to October 31. This exhibition marks a significant new phase in Diab's artistic career, presenting a series of reinterpretations of renowned masterpieces from Western art history. Diab draws inspiration from iconic works by artists such as Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh, Michelangelo, and Anthony van Dyck. He revisits these historical compositions through his unique visual style, which is shaped by experiences of displacement, resilience, and a profound belief in humanity.

The artist began working on the 'Reimagined' series in 2013, with the first piece being 'New Guernica.' He noted that completing this body of work took 13 years, expressing his happiness at finally presenting it in Abu Dhabi. Born in Damascus in 1977, Diab's artistic journey has been influenced by his background and experiences. The exhibition offers a compelling look at how contemporary artists engage with art history, infusing classic works with personal narratives and modern perspectives.
