Over 1,100 residents receive home Passport Delivery Service in Gulmi

Gulmi district in Nepal has successfully delivered over 1,100 passports directly to residents' homes, marking a significant expansion of a government initiative to improve public service accessibility. The Home Passport Delivery Service now operates across all 12 local government bodies within the district, including its two municipalities and ten rural municipalities.

This program is part of a broader government policy to provide services at citizens' doorsteps, eliminating the necessity for repeated visits to government offices. The Department of Postal Services manages the initiative, ensuring passports reach applicants without them having to travel to the district headquarters or designated collection points.

Chief District Officer Badrinath Gaire confirmed that the service, which initially started in Resunga Municipality, has been extended district-wide, with 1,110 passports delivered so far. The primary goal is to enhance access to government services, particularly benefiting those seeking passports for foreign employment, higher education, or other essential purposes.

The service was introduced to improve access to government services across the district.

Residents have expressed appreciation for the service, noting substantial savings in both time and travel costs. Previously, applicants had to make multiple trips to collect their documents. Khet Bahadur Khatri, chief of the District Post Office, highlighted the collaboration between the postal service and local governments to facilitate these direct deliveries.

Residents said it has been particularly beneficial for people requiring passports for foreign employment, higher education and other purposes, as it has reduced the need to travel to the district headquarters.

District officials are committed to further refining the service's effectiveness, especially for residents in remote rural areas. The initiative underscores a move towards more citizen-centric public administration in Nepal.
