Tajikistan has digitized more than 3,500 historical and cultural monuments as part of a national effort to update the State Register of protected heritage sites. The Agency for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage announced the completion of the main list for a new edition of the register.
This digitization process, carried out throughout 2025 and the first half of 2026, is a key component of implementing a presidential decree that declared 2025โ2030 the โYears of Development of the Digital Economy and Innovations.โ A dedicated website and an electronic system have been developed to support this initiative.
Agency director Sherali Khojazoda stated at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 6 that the State Register currently includes over 1,060 monuments of republican and international significance. The register, originally approved by the government in 2018, previously listed more than 960 sites. Heritage sites in Tajikistan are categorized as local, republican, or international significance, with only the latter two included in the State Register.
In addition to the main register, a separate directory has been compiled specifically for the capital, Dushanbe. This directory details 63 architectural and monumental heritage sites within the city, further contributing to the comprehensive documentation of Tajikistan's rich cultural and historical legacy.
The announcement was made by the agencyโs director, Sherali Khojazoda, at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 6.
