Over 30 Dead in Ethiopia Bus Crash After Vehicle Plunges into Ravine

A devastating bus accident in Ethiopia has claimed the lives of at least 31 people, with dozens more sustaining injuries. The incident occurred early Monday morning when an overcrowded bus, en route to the capital Addis Ababa from the Dessie region, veered off the road and plunged into a ravine.

The crash happened on a winding road through hilly terrain in an area reportedly lacking essential infrastructure and ambulance services. According to reports citing police in the central Ethiopian town of Kombolcha, around 30 individuals succumbed due to delayed rescue operations. Many of the injured had to be transported using public transport, highlighting the dire lack of emergency medical services.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. This tragedy follows another major bus crash in December 2024, where 66 people died after a bus fell into a river in Ethiopia's southern Sidama region, underscoring ongoing safety concerns on the country's roads.
