Over 79,000 students awarded scholarships in Bangladesh; girls lead recipients

A total of 79,246 students have secured scholarships for 2025 under the Primary Scholarship Examination in Bangladesh, with girls constituting nearly 55 percent of the awardees. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced the results, highlighting that 43,354 recipients are girls and 35,892 are boys.

The scholarships are divided into two categories: talent-pool and general awards. A total of 32,965 students received talent-pool scholarships, comprising 26,375 from government primary schools and 6,590 from private institutions. Additionally, 46,281 students were granted general scholarships, with 36,420 from government schools and 9,861 from private schools.

Despite allocating 82,500 scholarships under the 2026 policy, 3,254 awards remained unfilled. The policy reserves 80 percent of talent-pool scholarships for government primary school students and 20 percent for private school students. General scholarships have specific allocations for government schools based on union and ward levels, with five scholarships per union/ward (two for boys, two for girls, one merit-based). The remaining 20 percent of general scholarships are for private school students, distributed on an upazila basis.

Out of 645,041 registered students, 419,982 (65.11 percent) sat for the examination. Among government primary school candidates, 62.01 percent took the test, while 84.16 percent of private school candidates participated. Girls represented 60.32 percent of the total examinees.
