Oye: A Life of Impact and Service to Humanity

As Chief Victor Ikechukwu Oye, fondly known as Ozonkpu, marks his 70th birthday on July 18, his significant contributions to politics and humanity are being recognized. Oye has led a life marked by purpose, love, and service, spanning academia, business, and politics.

As the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Oye played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria's political landscape, particularly in Anambra State. He is lauded for his courage and political acumen in steering APGA through a period of intense internal crisis that threatened its very existence. His leadership ensured the party not only survived but also successfully fielded candidates and achieved electoral victories across the nation.

Oye's tenure is remembered for galvanizing support and inspiring ambitious politicians. Under his guidance, APGA grew to become the third-largest political party in Nigeria, not just in name but in influence and the number of elective offices won. Significantly, APGA achieved electoral successes in states outside its traditional base in the South East, including Taraba, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Benue, and Niger.

Furthermore, Oye focused on repositioning and strengthening the party. APGA became the first of the country's three major political parties to acquire substantial structures for its national headquarters in Abuja and its South East base. His efforts expanded the party's scope and membership across various states, solidifying its presence nationwide.
