Oyebamiji seeks Ooni’s blessings ahead of Osun election

Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has made a significant traditional move by visiting the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at his palace in Ile-Ife. The purpose of this courtesy visit was to seek the revered monarch's royal blessings and prayers as Oyebamiji prepares to launch his campaign for the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign.

During the meeting, Oyebamiji articulated his political ambition, stating it is firmly anchored on principles of service, accountability, and a steadfast commitment to the overall development of Osun State. He assured the Ooni that if elected, he would not betray the trust of the people and would dedicate himself to the progress of both Ife and the wider Osun State. Oyebamiji revealed that this visit was undertaken on the advice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who stressed the importance of seeking blessings from the ancient throne before commencing campaign activities.

The Ooni of Ife, in his response, lauded Oyebamiji for demonstrating humility and respect for traditional institutions, qualities he described as essential for leadership. However, he also issued a call to all politicians, urging them to prioritize unity and refrain from actions that could exacerbate divisions within the political landscape. The monarch emphasized that leaders must earn the prayers and blessings they receive through exemplary governance and selfless service, stating, "After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds."
