Oyebanji disburses N49m to 90 youth groups

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has disbursed N49 million to 90 youth organizations across the state as the second tranche of the 2026 youth subvention. This initiative aims to provide youth groups with greater leverage in governance.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Adesola Adedayo, stated that the intervention is designed to strengthen youth organizations, foster grassroots participation, and empower young people to contribute meaningfully to Ekiti State's development. The N49 million subvention supports registered youth, student, and community-based organizations in implementing their programs and activities.

This financial support is intended to reduce the dependence of these organizations on politicians or personal contributions from members. The program has been expanded to include community-based youth organizations at the grassroots level, aligning with the government's determination to ensure youths benefit from its "shared prosperity agenda."

Adedayo urged beneficiary organizations to utilize the funds judiciously for programs that will strengthen their groups, develop their members, and contribute to their communities. He also encouraged them to take their associations seriously, acquire relevant skills, and engage with other government programs aimed at improving youth capacity and welfare. Measures for accountability and transparency include requiring beneficiary organizations to maintain functional bank accounts and submit utilization reports.

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Development, Elijah Maxwell, noted that this intervention has enabled youth organizations to finance programs, cover office expenses, and organize activities that positively engage young people. He highlighted the consistency of the intervention since 2024 as a demonstration of the Oyebanji administration's commitment to youth development.
