Oyebanji pushes practical reforms for LG finances

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji is championing practical reforms aimed at bolstering the financial health of local government councils, viewing strengthened local administration as crucial for grassroots transformation. He stressed that meaningful development must originate from the local level, as it is the tier of government closest to the people and their primary point of contact for services.

We firmly believe that meaningful development must begin from the grassroots. The local government system remains the closest tier of government to our people and serves as the first point of call for many citizens seeking government services.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, Governor Oyebanji spoke at a three-day workshop in Ado Ekiti. The event, organized by the state Ministry of Local Government Affairs in collaboration with Hibad Strategic Solutions Limited, focuses on "Fiscal administrative due process and enhanced internal revenue generation" for local government officials.

The success of any government at the grassroots level depends largely on the competence, integrity, and professionalism of those entrusted with managing public resources. This is why capacity building remains a critical component of our governance strategy.

The workshop is designed to address two critical areas: fiscal administrative due process, which ensures transparency, accountability, and value for money, and enhanced internal revenue generation.

Fiscal due process is the foundation of good governance. It ensures that public funds are managed in accordance with established laws, regulations, and ethical standards. It promotes transparency, accountability, value for money, and public trust.

Participants will be exposed to modern techniques in revenue administration, financial planning, auditing, expenditure control, risk management, and revenue optimization. The governor urged them to translate this knowledge into practical reforms that will improve the financial stability of their respective councils. He reiterated his administration's commitment to investing in various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development, to accelerate progress across the state.
