Oyo abduction: Slain teacher for burial today

The community of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Nigeria, is preparing to lay to rest Adesiyan Adegboye, a 49-year-old teacher who tragically lost his life during a coordinated bandit attack on several schools last Friday. The burial, scheduled for today, May 22, 2026, at his residence, marks a somber moment for a region grappling with escalating insecurity.

The deceased, born on December 11, 1976, was gruesomely murdered by yet-to-be-identified bandits, who invaded the schools around 9:30am last Friday.

The incident, which saw bandits invade Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area, resulted in the abduction of numerous teachers and students, alongside the killing of Mr. Adegboye and others. The scale and coordination of the attacks have sent palpable fear through the area, prompting some parents to withdraw their children from schools and leading to hurried closures.

Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who visited the scene of the incident on Saturday, deployed more detectives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to collaborate with the joint security team as part of intensified efforts to secure the release of the abducted teachers and students of three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
