Oyo APC aspirant pledges loyalty despite primary grievances

Ademola Alli, who sought the Oyo Central Senatorial District ticket for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has affirmed his commitment to the party despite dissatisfaction with the recent primary results. He issued a statement calling for unity and restitution within the APC, vowing not to defect or engage in anti-party activities.

I had consulted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and loyalists on the way forward after the primary.

Alli emphasized that true reconciliation requires addressing the concerns of aggrieved members. He stated that he had consulted party leaders and stakeholders on the way forward and expressed gratitude to supporters in Oyo Central. He clarified that his neutrality during the APC governorship primary was due to his focus on securing the senatorial ticket, not a result of any political arrangement.

I make this clear because my position today is not the product of any political arrangement arising from the gubernatorial contest. I remained neutral throughout that process.

He met with the party's reconciliation committee to communicate his position and reaffirm his commitment, drawing attention to issues arising from the Oyo Central senatorial primary. Alli noted that many supporters felt the outcome did not reflect their choices, having invested significant time and resources. He urged his supporters to remain calm and disciplined, warning against allowing disappointment to foster division.

Many of my supporters believed that the outcome of the primary did not adequately reflect their choices. They had invested their time, resources, energy and political capital in the process.

Alli believes party loyalty should not preclude members from voicing genuine concerns. He advocated for reconciliation processes that include listening, acknowledgment, restitution, healing, and rebuilding. While not demanding a reversal of all primary outcomes, he called for meaningful steps to acknowledge legitimate concerns and rebuild trust within the party.

I believe that being a party man requires both loyalty and honesty. I remain committed to the APC and would neither leave the party nor encourage my supporters and associates to undermine its candidates.
