Oyo panel requests public input on school abduction investigation

The Oyo State judicial commission of inquiry is actively seeking information regarding the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in the Esinele and Yawota communities. The commission has issued a public call for memoranda from members of the public who possess useful information to assist its investigation.

Inaugurated on July 31, 2026, by Governor Seyi Makinde, the panel aims to gather facts, evidence, and relevant materials concerning the circumstances of the abduction. It is particularly interested in details about the security situation leading up to, during, and following the incident, as well as the response of relevant authorities. The commission also seeks recommendations to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

Individuals wishing to submit memoranda are required to provide their full names, contact details, and any supporting documents. Submissions can be made physically at the Conference Room, Office of the Head of Service, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, or electronically. The deadline for submissions is August 14, 2026. All memoranda should be addressed to the Secretary of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

The government has reiterated that the commission's purpose is to establish the facts surrounding the abduction, review the actions of authorities, and recommend measures to prevent recurrence. This process is crucial for understanding the events and implementing safeguards for the future.
