Oyo State receives two security surveillance aircraft

Oyo State has taken delivery of two crucial security surveillance aircraft, marking a significant enhancement to its efforts in combating insecurity. The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, bolstering the state's capacity for aerial monitoring, intelligence collection, and swift security responses across Oyo and neighboring areas.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, stated that the arrival signifies another step in the state's commitment to strengthening security operations through improved intelligence and aerial surveillance. Governor Seyi Makinde had previously confirmed the aircraft's arrival in Nigeria on July 18, 2026, noting they were undergoing reassembly at a Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos.

The state government had assured residents of the aircraft's arrival before the end of July, a commitment now fulfilled. These new assets are expected to provide vital support to security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, in monitoring criminal activities and improving response times to incidents like kidnapping and banditry.

The acquisition of these modern aerial surveillance platforms was announced on July 8, 2025, as part of broader measures to tackle emerging security challenges. Governor Makinde was present at the airport to receive the two aircraft, underscoring the administration's focus on leveraging technology to enhance public safety.
