Pacific Island nations win 10 medals at Commonwealth Games

Pacific Island countries concluded the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with a commendable tally of 10 medals, including two gold. This performance highlights the growing athletic prowess of the region on an international stage.

Tonga celebrated a significant achievement as Paula Motu secured a bronze medal in the men's +100kg judo category. Motu's victory marks Tonga's first Commonwealth Games medal since 2010, a historic moment for the nation's sports history. The Tonga Judo Association praised Motu's resilience and dedication, noting his journey through the repechage to secure the bronze medal.

Another notable achievement came from Norfolk Island's Shae Wilson, who clinched a bronze medal in the women's lawn bowls. Wilson's win secured Norfolk Island's sole medal of the Games. The weightlifting arena proved to be a successful venue for Pacific athletes, contributing six of the region's medals. Fiji and Tuvalu also saw success in the boxing ring, with Jasmine Daunakamakama and Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki each earning bronze medals.
