Packed with chemicals: Many buy this product for convenience, but end up poisoning themselves

Some packaged cakes marketed as soft chocolate treats contain ingredient lists so long they resemble a laboratory formula more than a homemade dessert, a Polish influencer says. In some cases, the labels contain nearly 100 items.

The influencer, who runs the TikTok profile BezSensu, examines food products and highlights what he considers deceptive or honest labeling. Polish portal Fakt reported that he recently found the cakes in a popular discount supermarket.

According to his video, sugar makes up nearly one-third of some products. It is followed by glucose syrup, invert sugar syrup and ordinary sugar syrup. The cakes also contain industrial fats such as palm, coconut and vegetable oils, along with additives including mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids, polyglycerol esters, xanthan gum, diphosphates, phosphates and carbonates. Modified starch and different types of starch also appear on the labels, while some products contain animal-derived gelatin.

The TikToker stressed that the additives are legally permitted. His concern, he said, lies in the amount and combination used in a single product. “When you look at the label, it is clear that this has little to do with a classic cake you would make at home from a few basic ingredients,” he said, urging consumers to read labels.
