Pakistan slashes diesel prices by over Rs30 after refinery talks

Pakistan's government has announced a substantial cut in diesel prices, aiming to ease economic burdens on consumers. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik revealed that diesel costs would fall by more than 30 to 32 rupees per liter following negotiations with petroleum refineries.

The government on Wednesday announced a “significant decrease” in diesel prices after holding talks with petroleum refineries.

Malik explained that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif personally intervened, requesting the refineries to consider the price reduction. This led to several virtual meetings between the government and refinery representatives.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also made a request to the refineries. He instructed me, and after that we had two or three virtual meetings with the refineries.

"I am happy to announce that the refineries have accepted the government’s demand while acknowledging the difficulties, and decided on a significant decrease of more than Rs30 or Rs32 in the diesel price," Malik told reporters. He added that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) would finalize the new prices after its calculations.
