Palestinian journalists face 108 attacks in July, syndicate reports

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate reported 108 attacks against Palestinian journalists and media workers in the occupied West Bank during July. These incidents, carried out by Israeli forces and settlers, included detentions, beatings, interrogations, and obstruction of reporting. The syndicate's Freedoms Committee stated that these actions increasingly hinder journalists' ability to document Israeli military raids and settler violence.

Common violations involved brief detentions and reporting restrictions, with 58 cases recorded. The committee also documented 11 settler attacks, including physical assaults and threats, and 12 instances where Israeli forces fired stun grenades or tear gas at journalists. Six journalists sustained injuries, including bleeding wounds, while covering developments in Gaza.

The syndicate urged for journalists to operate free from threats and attacks, demanding accountability for perpetrators. These July incidents contribute to what is described as the deadliest period on record for journalists, with rights groups reporting over 270 journalist deaths since October 2023.
