Pallister downs McIntosh to claim 200m gold medal at Pan Pacs

Australia's Lani Pallister has claimed a gold medal in the women's 200m freestyle and a silver medal in the 1500m freestyle at the Pan Pacific Championships held in Irvine, California. Her impressive performance continues a remarkable year for the swimmer.

In the 200m freestyle final, Pallister narrowly edged out Canadian star Summer McIntosh, touching the wall in 1 minute 53.67 seconds, just 0.02 seconds shy of her personal best. McIntosh finished second with a time of 1:53.86.

Later, Pallister competed in the grueling 1500m freestyle, setting a personal best time of 15:38.62. She finished behind American legend Katie Ledecky, who has an undefeated streak in the event spanning 16 years. Ledecky won the race in 15:36.09.

Pallister's success was part of a strong opening night for the Australian Dolphins team. Sam Short won gold in the men's 800m freestyle, Brittany Castelluzzo took gold in the women's 200m butterfly, and Ben Armbruster won the men's 50m butterfly. The team secured four of the eleven gold medals available on the first night of competition.
