PAN Expels West Lombok Regent After KPK Arrest

The National Mandate Party (PAN) has expelled the Regent of West Lombok, Lalu Ahmad Zaini, from its membership following his arrest in an anti-graft sting operation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Viva Yoga Mauladi, Deputy Chairman of PAN, confirmed that Zaini's position as the head of the NTB Provincial Leadership Council has been taken over by the party's central executive board.

His position as head of DPW PAN NTB has been replaced, and the leadership has been taken over by the central executive board," Viva stated. PAN expressed regret over Zaini's actions and apologized, emphasizing that party chairman Zulkifli Hasan consistently advises cadres to be self-aware and prudent in managing regional government affairs.

The party has declared its support for the KPK's legal process against Zaini, advocating for transparency, objectivity, and accountability to ensure justice. PAN affirmed its commitment to supporting the KPK's role in combating corruption, promoting clean governance, and upholding fair laws.

Budi Prasetyo, a spokesperson for the KPK, previously reported that a total of 19 individuals were apprehended in the operation in West Lombok on Monday, July 20. Zaini was arrested at his official residence on Monday morning, along with others detained at various locations in West Lombok. Initial examinations were conducted at the West Lombok Mobile Brigade headquarters. Prasetyo indicated that the case involves alleged illicit receipts by Zaini related to projects within West Lombok Regency. The KPK also seized evidence, including hundreds of millions of rupiah in cash and several documents purportedly linked to the case.
