Panama communal office burglarized; representative calls for increased police presence

The communal board office in José Domingo Espinar, located in Panama's San Miguelito district, was the target of a burglary, resulting in substantial material losses. Unknown individuals gained forced entry into the building, stealing valuable equipment.

Guillermo García, the local representative, explained that the perpetrators created an opening in a wall on the side of the building, which is typically secured in the afternoons. They then broke through a side metal door to access various offices. Among the stolen items were four to six laptop computers, a camera, advertising department equipment, and personal belongings of an employee. The thieves also took $23.60 in cash from the petty cash box.

To conceal their actions, the burglars damaged and dismantled the internal security system. Surveillance cameras in the hallways and the front office were removed, along with the video recording equipment. The total estimated loss for office and technology equipment ranges from $10,000 to $12,000.

Following the formal complaint filed by the board, forensic personnel visited the scene to collect evidence and fingerprints. Representative García made an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Security to bolster security in San Miguelito. While acknowledging the National Police's efforts, he highlighted a critical shortage of resources, noting that only two or three patrol cars are available for the entire district. He stressed the urgent need for better equipment in the area.
