Panama consumer protection agency receives 1,693 complaints from January through August 2026

Panama’s Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition, known as Acodeco, received 1,693 complaints about possible violations of consumer-protection rules between January and August 2026.

Cases involving benefits for retirees, pensioners and older adults made up a prominent share. Restaurants accounted for about 25% of complaints, while fast-food franchises represented another 15% in cases related to the benefit.

Other reports involved businesses charging prices different from those advertised, possible misleading advertising and failures to provide proof of payment.

Acodeco said consumers can file complaints anonymously, but precise information helps inspectors verify the claims. The agency asked people to provide the business name and location, the date and time of the incident, and a clear description. Photos, videos, invoices and receipts can also be attached.

Complaints can be submitted through Acodeco’s website, the “Complaint Filing” option, the 24-hour 311 Citizen Service Center or direct messages to the agency’s Instagram account. The authority said public participation helps identify irregularities and supports enforcement efforts.
