Panama edges Nicaragua 1-0 in baseball at 2026 Games

Panama secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Nicaragua in the baseball tournament of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The decisive run came in the bottom of the seventh inning when Joshwan Wright hit a single that allowed Jael Escobar to score.

Both teams showcased strong pitching, keeping the game scoreless until the final inning. Wright came to bat with runners on first and second and one out. On a two-ball, one-strike count, the Bocas del Toro native delivered the crucial hit.

Darío Agrazal was the winning pitcher, completing seven innings and allowing only three hits while striking out two. Nicaragua's Keny de Jesús Cruz took the loss, giving up two hits and one run over six innings. Panama managed only three hits in the entire game, with Abraham Rodríguez, Carlos Mosquera, and Wright accounting for them. Eliean Miranda led Nicaragua's offense with two hits in three at-bats.

This win marks Panama's second consecutive victory in the tournament. They are scheduled to play their next game against Colombia on Sunday, August 2nd.
