Panama forecast calls for heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts on Sunday

Rainy conditions will continue across Panama on Sunday, with the possibility of heavy showers, thunderstorms and wind gusts, particularly during the afternoon, according to the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama.

Along the Caribbean coast, showers with possible electrical activity were expected offshore during the early morning and morning. The rain could move into northern Veraguas, the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca and Bocas del Toro. Intermittent rain and showers were also forecast for Colón province and Guna Yala.

During the afternoon, strong showers, lightning and wind gusts could develop from Bocas del Toro to Costa Abajo de Colón. Elsewhere on the Caribbean side, isolated showers were expected. Cloudy skies and intermittent rain were set to persist at night in Bocas del Toro and northern Ngäbe-Buglé, although conditions were expected to gradually ease.

On the Pacific side, morning rain and showers with possible electrical activity were forecast offshore, with incursions toward the coasts and mainland of southern Veraguas, the Azuero Peninsula and eastern Panama. Afternoon rain, showers and storms could affect several areas, with the strongest episodes and possible gusts concentrated in Chiriquí, Ngäbe-Buglé and the central provinces.

Nighttime rain could continue in the central provinces, Ngäbe-Buglé, Chiriquí and the maritime areas of the Gulf of Chiriquí. Maximum temperatures were expected to reach 29 to 32°C on the Pacific side and 27 to 30°C in the Caribbean. Temperatures in the Central Cordillera were forecast at 20 to 25°C. Authorities kept a weather watch in place, while maximum ultraviolet radiation remained moderate to high, at levels of 5 to 7.
