Panama hosts Inter-American Naval Conference after more than 60 years

Panama is once again the host of the Inter-American Naval Conference, a significant forum for naval leaders from across the Americas. This marks the 32nd edition of the conference and the first time Panama has hosted the event since its inaugural session over six decades ago.

The conference, organized by the National Aeronaval Service (Senan), convenes commanders and representatives from the naval and maritime forces of 17 countries in the Americas, along with two invited nations. Officials from Panama's Ministry of Public Security highlighted the importance of the gathering for bolstering regional cooperation in the face of evolving maritime security threats.

Senan Director General, Commander Luis De Gracia, welcomed the delegations, emphasizing Panama's strategic position as a bridge between oceans and continents. He reaffirmed Panama's commitment to peace, stability, and the protection of maritime spaces. The conference, held every two years, seeks to improve interoperability, share experiences, and coordinate strategies against common threats.

This year's conference holds special significance as it returns to its birthplace, Panama, which initiated the forum in 1959. The event, scheduled from June 22 to 26, includes high-level meetings and strategic exchanges focused on enhancing maritime security and defense capabilities. It also coincides with the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Amphictyonic Congress of Panama, underscoring the nation's historical role in fostering integration and understanding among continental nations. The conference is set to conclude with the signing of a final act outlining joint commitments until the next meeting in 2028.
