Panama Launches AI and Semiconductor Strategies, Investing $105 Million and Offering 10,000 Tech Scholarships

Panama is making a significant push into the global technology landscape with the launch of its national strategies for artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors. President José Raúl Mulino announced the initiatives, which aim to position the country as a key player in these advanced industries.

The semiconductor strategy receives a substantial boost with a $105 million allocation from the administration. This investment will support the functioning of the Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center at the Technological University of Panama and fund the overseas training of Panamanian professionals. The goal is to cultivate local expertise capable of building a domestic semiconductor industry.

We are offering 10,000 scholarships in Talent Up Panamá, in alliance with Google, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Technological University of Panama, for training in artificial intelligence, data analysis, cloud computing and cybersecurity.

Complementing this, Panama is offering 10,000 scholarships through the "Talent Up Panamá" program, in partnership with Google, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Technological University of Panama. These scholarships cover training in AI, data analysis, cloud computing, and cybersecurity, accessible via Panamá Conecta.

The National AI Strategy is built on six pillars: digital and physical infrastructure, talent development, data governance and cybersecurity, AI ethics and regulation, investment attraction, and the application of AI in strategic sectors. Panama aims to become a reliable regional innovation center, leveraging AI to potentially boost economic growth and productivity across Latin America.

In semiconductors and microelectronics, our administration has allocated 105 million dollars to the execution of this national strategy. We have an Advanced Semiconductor Technology Center that operates at the Technological University of Panama, and young Panamanians are currently pursuing master's and doctoral degrees in Arizona, with scholarships from Senacyt, to return and build this industry in their own country.
