Panama's MOP clears Bocas del Toro landslides, improves drainage

Panama's Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has undertaken crucial work to clear landslides on the road leading to Bonyic in the Bocas del Toro province. The debris removal was essential to restore safety conditions and maintain vehicular traffic on this vital route, especially following recent heavy rainfall.

Crews from the MOP's Maintenance Department, in collaboration with the Fire Department, executed the operations. The MOP stated that efforts will continue in other parts of the region where new landslides have occurred, emphasizing their commitment to keeping roads clear and ensuring unimpeded transit for residents and travelers.

In parallel, maintenance teams addressed a critical bottleneck in the El Silencio corregimiento. An inadequate drainage system had been causing flooding risks during downpours. The MOP cleared the existing channel, removed old piping, and installed an additional line to significantly increase the system's capacity. This work also involved reinforcing the road with stone material to properly channel water away from homes, ensuring residents maintain safe access even during storms.
